Mrs. Butler's Welcome Page

I grew up in the Cochrane area and attended elementary school here. What a joy to now find myself teaching in our beautiful town! I have a passion for literacy and find joy in supporting students as they take their first steps into the wonderful world of reading. Teaching in a Christian environment, leading the children in worship, prayer and sharing God's word together during Fire Place is a privilege and great source of pleasure.

Definition of Literacy

Literacy is the ability, confidence and willingness to engage with language* to acquire, construct and communicate meaning in all aspects of daily living (Alberta Education, 2015).

Literacy is foundational for all learning, making sense of the world and communicating with others.

Literacy is more than the ability to read and write.  It involves the knowledge, skills and abilities—the competencies—that enable individuals to think critically, communicate effectively, deal with change and solve problems in a variety of contexts to achieve their personal goals, develop their knowledge and potential, and participate fully in society (Government of Alberta,  p. 6).

Helpful Study Tips for Parents:

A family atmosphere prevails at our school with the education of your child being a shared responsibility.  We encourage your interest in what your child does each day and welcome your involvement in the classroom, school council and at home.

  1. Read with your child on a regular basis. Every minute of reading outside of school increases your childs future academic success.
  2. Visit your local library to find a variety of books for your child to enjoy.
  3. Check out the Learn Alberta website for learning activities to do at home.
