September Updates

These updates will usually be emailed as well, but it is good to double check :)

Hello Parents,

The times for the FT to Mitford Ponds have changed due to some scheduling conflicts. We will leave the school at 9:00 am and return at 12:05 pm. They will not be eating lunch at the ponds. They will eat only their snack there and have many opportunities to play games and learn a little science. Please make sure they have a light backpack, snack packed, water bottle filled, walking shoes, and appropriate clothing for outside (they will be outside for the whole time). Currently the forecast for Friday is a high of 15 Degrees so it will not be very hot out. If you are volunteering, please sign in with Angie Watts at the office and come to the classroom by 8:50 am. We will be going to meet the other 5 classes at the soccer/football field to start our journey to the ponds. I have everyone's forms for the walking-off-campus FT forms and will let you know a week in advance if we are going to journey on another walking FT in the future.

Tonight you received reminders about photo day that is coming up.

Tomorrow you will receive Reading A-Z books for the home reading program this year. Your child(ren) must complete reading the books given and the question sheet by Monday so we can exchange them. If they are returned on another day we will not be able to exchange them due to packing time. The second time we send home the books there will be a comprehension sheet for one of the books that your child needs to complete at some point during that week. Please help them with these at first until they get use to them. The sheet will be marked and sent home for you to see and review with your child(ren). Rereading a book is also a great idea so that they gain confidence and practice using their reading strategy skills. For those advanced readers, please focus on their comprehension of the book, their fluency and expression.

Tomorrow you will also receive a FT form for the Calgary Corn Maze, which is coming up on October 1st. I still need some volunteers if you are available, just email me. The FT can be paid for on school cash and the FT form is available on the PLONE website. I will email all volunteers with the itinerary when we get closer to the date.

Tomorrow you will receive a 'Chick-a-dee' order form. Please do not feel obligated to get this subscription, but DO send them back to school because it gets our class free items (just select NO or YES on the form). Chick-a-dee is a childrens magazine that has cool experiments to try, colouring pages, comics, jokes, and much more. I have some in my class if you want to come check them out.

Tomorrow is Chapel in the library.

Friday is Bible Memory Assessment for Proverbs 11:12.

The mathletics codes are taped in the front of their agendas and can be used at any time. We will start to use RAZ kids next week and you will receive an information sheet about how to use the website next week.

Today we focused on combining the letters P, I, N, T, S, and A to make different words/printing and will be learning about the letters C and K tomorrow. Their word of the week to spell and use in a sentence is: WAS. Please challenge them to spell and use this word in a sentence. Math we worked on patterning and place value. In social and devotions we talked about the importance of being you and that each person is special in their own way.

We will be having a CCA Terry Fox Run this month as well. I will keep you updated.

** I will start sending home printing that we have worked on in and class. Please practice those letters with them at home - printing and the sounds so that they get that extra practice (grade twos - printing and thinking of words that use those letters). When you receive number printing sheets those are really important to go over because many of them struggle with writing their letters the correct orientation and spelling the numbers. **

* I have been posting Tin Tin updates on the Blog so you can be part of our experience here at school if you want to check it out. Remember just go to:

The password was sent to you :)

Have a great night,

Hello Parents,

You will receive an email if your child was able to say their Bible Memory Verse on Friday. If they did not, please practice with them. Mr. Elkin will be giving chocolate bars to the student that knows this week's verse; since it is the school's year memory verse.

Scholastics were sent home on Friday. They will be due September 21st so that I can get all of the books in before the next scholastic order and they will not be sold out. Please consider increasing your child's library as they grow in their reading this way, either through Scholastics or another company. Just keep them reading as much as possible. In the month of October, part of their homework will be reading every night.

September 18th is the FT to Mitford Ponds and I am short some volunteers. If you can help on this FT please email me. Make sure on Friday they are wearing appropriate walking shoes, dressed appropriately for the weather, they have a good outdoor lunch, water bottle, and a small backpack to carry everything with them.

Homework this weekend: Think and write 10 words that use the letters T, I, N, A, and S.
Parents we have been working on these letter sounds this week and trying to think of words that we can make with them. We also have been working on drawing patterns, and spelling the word 'zero' and 'one.'

Next weeks memory verse is: "Whoever makes fun of their neighbor has no sense.
But the one who has understanding controls their tongue." Proverbs 11:12

Have a great day and I look forward to this upcoming week,

Jesselee Beauparlant

Hello Parents,

Remember there is no school on Monday - it is Labor Day.

This week we have started a daily program called SPARK. It is a program that focuses on physical activity to enhance their learning. We stay outside for the first 15 minutes of every day playing outdoor games. Please dress your child for the morning weather. There have been proven studies that exercise stimulates the brain and calms the body for learning.

The Entertainment books went home for you and your child to sell. It is $40 for the book and $20 for the app. There will be mid-sale prizes given to anyone that sells a book and a pizza party for the class that sells the most. All of the money goes towards school events and activities. If you end up not selling the book please return the book to the school. The app works across Canada and the US.

Your student can access the site using their email and id number. The steps for students are:
1. Go to: schoolblogs.rockyview.ab.ca
2. Click RVS student
3. Sign into their google account using their email (first name middle initial last name@rvschools.ab.ca) and password (ID number - on the back of their agenda).
4. It will then take them to the blog and they can comment.

On Monday we will be starting our adventure into learning with the Adventures of Tin Tin.

We will start our Bible Memory Verse off with Hebrews 10:4 (the school's verse for the year).

Thank you,

Jesselee Beauparlant
