September Homework

Daily Homework to enrich learning

September 30:

Grade 1: Make a picture out of food - please have them use spices and water or another type of food that can spread to make a picture (it could be a picture of a boat or a flower).

Grade 2: Find the best material to keep water warm.... here is a good website to help explain and try to keep water warm (http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/science/materials/keeping_warm/play/). If you have a thermometer you can also put it in the fridge covered with different material to see which warm water keeps it's heat. HAVE FUN!

September 29: Write a pattern with an error for your parents to fix (example: ABCCABCCABBCABCCABCC - error is the bolded part and you need to find it!).

September 28: Grade 2: Draw two expanding/increasing patterns (++   ++++   ++++++ = rule is going up by 2)

Grade 1: Draw two different patters with 3 attributes (an attribute could be different shapes, colours, letters, numbers = 1 - blue 1 - blue 1 - blue OR 1 1 - blue 11 - blue).

*** All Reading A-Z books came home with a comprehension sheet today (please help them complete it without giving them the answer, but get them to reread if they are not sure.... remember you have a week to do this).

September 25: Write/Draw what love is. (This was discussed in Chapel today)

September 24: Reading using a strategies and write 5 using e.

* Strategies used in classes: Turtle Talk (slow down their talking), Eagle Eyes (use the pictures and look carefully), Elephant Ears (listen to yourself saying the words/letters), and Stretchy Snake (stretch out the letters and sing the words).

* The Grade 2s need to write the 'e' words in a sentence. Examples of 'e' words would be Egg or nEst.

September 23: Invent something new! (We read the book 'Molly Lou Mellon' at school and discussed her ability to invent things out of nothing - ex. a car out of boxes or a toy out of soup cans). Let them have fun and invent something today! It can be posted on the BLOG or brought into school. If you are posting it on the blog make sure to log into the blog using your child's email address and ID number (the password - (on the back of the agenda).

September 22: Write 7 words using the letters c, e, n, s, a, k, t, p, and i. (they must use only they letters to make the words).

September 18: Read and write 10 K words (they can have K in them or start with K - ex. Kite, Walk).

September 15: Read and practice the memory verse (Proverbs 11:12 - found in the memory verse folder)

September 10: Draw a ABBC and ABCCD pattern in their homework book.

September 8: Each grade has different homework:

Grade 1s: Write the letters A, S and T (each a line and both lower and upper case letters)

Grade 2s: Write 10 words using the letters A, S and T (example: sat, taps, sap... they must print these letters neatly).

Parents: Sign and return the FT form for walking FTs (the first one is on September 18th to Mitford Ponds). Send in the form that is attached to the back of the Newsletter "Learning about Your Child."

September 7: Practice the Memory Verse: Hebrews 10:24

September 4: Draw a AVC and AABB pattern, (in their agendas or a separate piece of paper).

Note on home from the email update: This weekend their homework is to make a 'ABC and AABB' pattern in their agenda. We have talked about patterns in class and I would like them to practice this at home.
An example of these patterns would be: *&^*&^*&^*&^*&^ (3 parts that repeat) and $$##$$##$$##$$##(4 parts that repeat).
